Evaluating Smart Power Grid Resilience: Integrative Analysis with OMNeT, Matlab, and ETAP in HV, MV, and LV Networks
This experiment focuses on evaluating the resilience of smart power grids through a comprehensive approach that integrates standard High Voltage (HV) network and realistic Medium Voltage (MV) networks and Low Voltage (LV) simulations scenarios. The study employs three powerful tools—OMNeT, Matlab, and ETAP—to construct and analyze the cyber and power grid model. The objectives include building representative HV, MV and LV networks, creating realistic MV and LV simulations, and subjecting the system to various cyber-physical scenarios. The experiment aims to identify vulnerabilities, assess the grid's ability to recover from disturbances, and propose resilience-enhancing strategies, such as smart grid technologies and adaptive control. The outcomes will contribute insights into power grid resilience in term of power protection and power quality, informing the development of strategies to enhance the robustness of electrical networks.
Assessing Cyber-Physical Threats in HV/MV Power Networks: An Experimental Study with SIEMENS 7SJ63 and OMICRON-256
This experiment focuses on testing and validating the impact of cyber-physical threats on the Intelligent Electronic Device - IEDs at High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) power networks. The experiment incorporates Multifunction Protection Relay SIEMENS 7SJ63 and OMICRON-256 test device. Additionally, tools such as ETAP, ATP, EMTP, and WireShark Simulations are utilized to create a comprehensive testing environment. The primary objectives include assessing vulnerabilities, evaluating the effectiveness of the SIEMENS 7SJ63 relay with different protection setting and coordination scheme under different cyber-physical threats. The experiment aims to provide practical insights into protecting critical infrastructure, utilizing advanced IEDs, and leveraging simulation tools to ensure the robustness of HV/MV power networks in the face of evolving cyber threats.
